Panaga School was established in 1948. It is situated in the
Brunei Shell residential camp of Panaga
between the oil towns of Kuala Belait and
Seria. |
| |
 |
| |
|
The school occupies a split site
with a distance of approximately 700 metres
between the three buildings.
The
youngest children attend the Mendaram Building (Nursery).
Children then progress to
the adjacent Rampayoh Building (Milepost 1).
The older children are taught
in the Teraja Building
(Milepost 2 & 3). |

|
Background |
| |
|
Panaga School differs from
most other primary schools in that
the parents of the majority of our children are
working for the oil and gas
industry. There are currently 12 other Shell
schools to
be found around the world in
locations where Shell operates;
namely Gabon, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, England, Russia and
Syria. The schools range in size
from just twenty pupils
on roll, to Panaga - which is
the largest Shell school - with an
enrolment of 617 pupils. |
| |
|
Shell schools have changed in recent years. Previously, the core student population was either British or
Dutch. Panaga School now has children from 37 different
nations. The teachers at Panaga are British, Dutch,
Australian, South African and Canadian. The curriculum has also changed
to meet the needs of the children. |

Aims and
Standards |
| |
|
Panaga
School aims to provide a high standard of
education in ways which closely match each
pupil’s own aptitudes and abilities. |

We
aim to ensure that : |

All our pupils

All our pupils learn
to appreciate and respect the
diversity of cultures and languages
in the school and learn to be aware
of the international world. |
| |
- |
All our pupils are entitled to have access to a
broad and balanced curriculum that
builds on what a child already knows, understands and can do. |
| |
- |
All our pupils will be given learning experiences
that will be structured to challenge
them to
achieve their maximum potential academically and
socially. |
| |
- |
All our pupils will
have opportunities to develop their
self-confidence and self esteem. |
| |
- |
All our pupils will
be encouraged to develop positive
attitudes towards learning. |

will be valued and represent a good
standard, in all respects, for each

Organisation |
| |
|
Panaga
School has two language streams, one English
speaking and one Dutch speaking. Each stream
follows its own national curriculum for Language and
Mathematics. |
|
|
|
As in all Shell schools, the main
curriculum taught is the International
Primary Curriculum (IPC). There is an
emphasis on integration at Panaga: both
streams mix for IPC lessons, assemblies
and after school activities. |
|
| |
|
Mission Statement |
|
Panaga School provides learning supported by an
International Curriculum that empowers children with
the knowledge, skills and understanding that will
enable them to be productive members of an ever
changing, culturally-diverse world community. |
|
|
|
| |
|
The International Stream has 26 class
teachers.
The Dutch Language Stream has 5 class
teachers and there are also 6 specialist
teachers. The children in the Dutch Stream are sometimes grouped in a
combination of year groups depending on the
class size. |
| |
|
With full implementation
of the IPC, year groups are split into
four phases: Early Years, Milepost
1, Milepost 2 and Milepost 3. |
| |
|
The school is led by the Principal along with the Head
of the International Stream and the Head of the Dutch
Stream. |
